Project Overview

Completed in 2009, Citydel underwent full renovation to meet current sustainability standards, including BREEAM.

The goal was to refresh the common areas and craft a modern, sophisticated identity for a premium Class A business centre.

The design stays flexible to suit varied tenants while integrating smoothly with the existing structure, optimizing visitor flows at turnstiles, creating a versatile reception, and weaving cafés and service tenants into one cohesive environment.

Spatial Organization

ABD architects reimagined 4,500 m² of ground-floor public spaces: entrance, central lobby, lift halls, and corridors.

Key challenge: limited natural light (mostly from the west despite large glazing). The extensive glazed façades called for an entrance that engages from the street and reflects the centre’s character.

The project streamlined access control flows, developed a universal reception desk, and thoughtfully integrated service functions and amenities into the public realm.

Design Concept

The concept revolves around strict geometric patterning that extends into protruding wall volumes in the central lobby — directly referencing the building’s façade and unifying the overall image.

Sharp geometry is balanced by round ceiling lights and soft textiles.

A restrained monochrome palette gains warmth from green accents: living walls and plants in clean metal planters.

To counter low daylight, light reflective finishes, mirrors, and warm-toned layered lighting create an inviting atmosphere.

Waiting zones use understated neutral furniture.

The interior prioritizes visual clarity and minimalism — no excess details; even the reception clock becomes an abstract line composition on white.

Graphics & Navigation

Signature element: bespoke graphics by Yuri Gordon.

He reinterpreted his “Literary Map of Moscow” within the Garden Ring as “Business Moscow, or City of Masters” — adding a subtle, ironic cultural layer to the restrained setting.

Supplementary Kremlin schematics and local district maps tie the interior to its urban surroundings.

The same graphic language shapes wayfinding: custom icons replace generic signage, strengthening spatial identity.
