ABOUT THE VETERINARY CENTER

Skolkovo Vet is a unique facility for the Russian capital, designed to elevate veterinary medicine to a fundamentally new level. Located in the Skolkovo district, the project originated from the need to create a modern medical environment for animals - one that meets high standards of functionality, ergonomics, and comfort for both patients and their owners.

At the same time, the design had to integrate seamlessly into the low‑rise architectural landscape of Skolkovo, a territory rapidly developing as an innovation hub in the Moscow region.

ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT

According to the concept developed by the team of ABD Architects, the Skolkovo Vet veterinary centre is designed as a compact square‑plan volume with wide roof overhangs. It forms an expressive yet restrained silhouette, while ribbon glazing emphasises horizontality and visual lightness.

The centre provides a wide range of services: from consultations and diagnostics to surgery, rehabilitation and subsequent accommodation of pets. Specialised spaces are designated for medical staff to work with the most advanced equipment, such as CT, MRI and gamma knife. Skolkovo Vet is also equipped with a pool with an adjustable floor for adaptive hydrotherapy.

The adjacent territory features comprehensive landscaping with lawns, shrubs and trees, complementing exercise areas for recovering animals and a boarding zone. This ensures additional comfort for visitors and meets the recovery requirements for different groups of pets.

ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTIONS AND MATERIALS

The site features comprehensive landscaping with lawns, shrubs, and trees that complement dedicated areas for walking recovering animals and a pet hotel zone. This ensures comfort and meets the rehabilitation needs of various groups of animals. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, including CT and MRI scanners, a Gamma Knife, specialized treatment rooms, and a swimming pool with an adjustable bottom for adaptive hydrotherapy.

The interior spaces of Skolkovo Vet are a carefully considered architectural environment where every element works to create a comfortable setting capable of minimising the stress of medical procedures and ensuring clear wayfinding for clinic visitors.

The extensive glazing not only provides abundant natural light essential for the medical staff, but also maintains a constant visual connection with the landscape outside. This also positively affects the emotional state of both visitors and animals. Interior finishes use materials in a natural palette: wood, light‑toned ceramic tiles, and muted pastel textiles - creating a sense of warmth and homeliness.

IMPACT

The Skolkovo Vet project can be considered a vivid example of contemporary service architecture oriented towards user care. Functionality is seamlessly combined here with emotional comfort. Visual lightness and spatial openness have become not merely decorative, but meaning‑defining devices of the architectural concept.
